Blue Mountain Lavender

Lavendula angustifolia Blue Mountain was raised by Mr Stan Hughes of Tapanui in the mid1950's, as a seedling from white the English lavender.

The bright blue flowers make a spectacular display in summer and if planted in a group or as a hedge the effect is very special. Lavender Blue Mountain is easy to grow in any sunny garden with well drained soil. Plant about 20-30 cm apart if you want a hedge as the plants will grow approximately 30cm wide and 50-60 cm tall. Prune after the winter in September. The spent flower heads may be cut to tidy the bushes for winter but pruning in the autumn could result in winter damage to the bushes.

The deep blue flowers have a stem length of about 15-20 cm long and can be used as fresh cut flowers, dried or used in potpourri. The high quality scent is very strong and the colour holds well when dried in the dark.

Plants available now for that special sunny spot. We apologise for this plant being in short supply recently but we wish to advise we have good numbers of nice plants available at the moment.
